Tanya Fishmann
Tanya Fishmann is a Ukrainian contemporary visual artist and photographer working across self-portraiture, performance, photography, installation, and sculptural objects. Her practice explores ritual, personal mythology, archetypes, embodiment, and transformation. Many of her photographs are self-portraits emerging from performative acts in which she inhabits an image or archetype as a lived ritual, rather than simply illustrating it. The ritual itself is a complete artistic act; the photographs become its traces and independent works.
Her visual language moves between analogue film, instant photography, digital images, staged compositions, and deliberately spontaneous or imperfect moments. Rather than pursuing a uniform, polished gothic aesthetic, she embraces the uncanny, kitsch, intimacy, and an underground sensibility. These shifts in medium and mood are integral to her contemporary and performance-based practice.
