Penda’s Fen

A filmed adaptation of the play of the same name aired as part of a series on the BBC. It tells the tale of a queer welsh boy trying desperately to fit into the Christian masculine ideal he has been raised in but was never quite able to fit. His self-discovery and becoming parallels his learning about the history of the land he lives on, its pagan roots and folklore literally overgrown by English nationalism and finding liberation in his own liminality and connection to that past.
